Prayer - Pt 7
If "the Lord's Prayer" is the pattern for prayer à we can learn vital truths
1st index sentence: "Our Father who are in heaven, hallowed be Thy name,"
Prayer begins with worship of the Father
Worship = acknowledge His worth, give Him the honor and reverence due Him.
Supremacy of God
Daniel 4:34 (NASB) "But at the end of that period I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my reason returned to me, and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever; For His dominion is an everlasting dominion, And His kingdom [endures] from generation to generation. 35 "And all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, But He does according to His will in the host of heaven And [among] the inhabitants of earth; And no one can ward off His hand Or say to Him, 'What hast Thou done?'
Remember:
Exodus 20:7 (NASB) "You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.
Opposite of taking the Lord's name in vain = hallowing His name.
"The name of the Lord denotes not merely a title, but includes all that by which He makes Himself known and all that He shows Himself to be."1
A person taking the Lord's name in vain is disbelieving, by denying or distorting the truth about God.
God's names testify of His character! Hallowing His name show you acknowledge and respect Who He is and you behave accordingly!
List some thoughts/statements that might show a lack of "hallowing" His name and result in taking His name in vain by thinking wrong thoughts about Him:
