Prayer - Pt 8

We really live in difficult and perilous times.

2Timothy 3:1 (NASB) But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come.

Hallow His name and remember it in prayer. Illustrated in Isaiah 36.

The nation of Israel had been divided into two kingdoms, Israel to the north with the ten tribes, Judah's two tribes to the south (Judah and Benjamin). Assyria had already taken the Northern Kingdom into captivity and is threatening the Southern Kingdom.

Read this chapter and answer the following questions:

  1. Who is Rabshakeh?
  2.

  3. What is he threatening?
  4.

  5. According to Isaiah 36:10, who has sanctioned what he is doing?
  6.

  7. According to Isaiah 36:18-20, what is Rabshakeh's attitude toward God?

Now read Isaiah 37 and answer the following questions:

  1. What does Hezekiah do when he hears Rabshakeh's words?
  2.

  3. What does this tell you about Hezekiah?
  4.

  5. Note once again Rabshakeh's attitude toward God in Isaiah 37:8-13.
  6.

  7. In Isaiah 37:14-15, what does Hezekiah do with the letter of Rabshakeh?

Go back and re-read Isaiah 37:16-20 and look at Hezekiah's prayer to God.

  1. How does Hezekiah hallow God's name?
  2.

  3. What parallels do you see between this prayer and "the Lord's prayer?"
