Prayer - Pt 16

Acts 20:27 (NASB) "For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole purpose of God. 28 "Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. 29 "I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; 30 and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them."

Can you be led astray if you do not know the whole counsel of God regarding prayer?

Read:

1Joh 5:14 (NASB) And this is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us [in] whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.

John 15:7 (NASB) "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you.

  1. According to 1John 5:14-15, what are the conditions for prayer that will be heard and answered by God?
  2. If I fulfill these conditions, what do I have before God in prayer? (a word directly from the text)
  3. According to both passages, when can I be assured that God will give me what I have asked for?
  4. Do you see any connection in the conditions for an answered prayer in these two passages? If yes or no explain.

5. If you combine these Scriptures with earlier (Matt 21:18-22; mark 11:23-24) what precepts do you have on prayer? Make a list of what these Scriptures teach regarding effective prayer.
